📦 Important: Installation Steps Required

Since this is an alpha build, macOS will show a security warning when you first open Sparcle. This is expected behavior. Follow the guide below to install successfully.

Download the App

Click the download button above to get Sparcle-alpha.zip (10.9 MB)

Extract the App

Double-click Sparcle-alpha.zip in your Downloads folder to extract Sparcle.app

Move to Applications

Drag Sparcle.app to your /Applications folder

⚠️ Bypass Security Warning (One-Time Only)

When you try to open Sparcle for the first time, macOS will show:

"Sparcle cannot be opened because it is from an unidentified developer"

This is expected. Here's how to proceed:

✅ Method 1: Right-Click Override (Easiest)

  1. Right-click (or Control + Click) on Sparcle.app in your Applications folder
  2. Select "Open" from the menu
  3. Click "Open" in the confirmation dialog
  4. Sparcle will launch and won't show this warning again

✅ Method 2: System Settings (Alternative)

  1. Try to open Sparcle.app (it will be blocked)
  2. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security
  3. Scroll down to find: "Sparcle was blocked from opening"
  4. Click "Open Anyway"
  5. Confirm by clicking "Open" in the dialog

Why does this happen?

Alpha builds are not notarized by Apple (which requires a $99/year developer account). This security override is a one-time step - after you approve it once, Sparcle will open normally.

Grant Required Permissions

Sparcle needs two permissions to work properly:

  • Accessibility - To read screen content and automate actions
  • Full Disk Access - To access file contents securely

macOS will prompt you automatically when you first launch Sparcle. You can also grant these manually in:

System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility / Full Disk Access

Launch Sparcle

Press Shift + ⌘ + Space to invoke Sparcle from anywhere!

Or find it in your Applications folder.

System Requirements

  • macOS 13.0 (Ventura) or later
  • Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3) or Intel processor
  • Minimum 4GB RAM (8GB recommended)
  • 100MB available disk space
  • Internet connection for AI features

Known Issues (Alpha)

This is an alpha release - expect bugs and rough edges. Known issues:

  • First launch may take ~10 seconds to initialize
  • Some UI animations may be janky
  • Crash reporting not yet implemented
  • No auto-update mechanism yet (manual downloads for updates)
