Extend Bolt
Bolt Apps are the things you add to Bolt: a snippet, a launcher key, a skill, an agent, a connector. Some are personal and take a minute. Some only an admin can add. Each has a safety tier so you know what it can reach before you add it.
The map
Each row is something a person can add in the current release. Admin only means a person needs admin rights in your organization's Bolt.
| What you add | What it is for | Who can add it | Tier | In a Boltpack today | Reference |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Snippet | Reusable text with fill-in fields, dates and clipboard filters. Type ;key. | Anyone | 1 | No | Snippets |
| Snippet pipeline | A saved chain: take the clipboard, run it through steps and Apps, copy the result. | Anyone | Same as the Apps it calls | No | Pipelines |
User App, transform | Reshape pasted text on your device: clean a CSV, mask IDs, turn logs into a table. | Anyone, desktop app | 2 | Yes | User Apps |
User App, http_local | Read from a service on your own machine (a dev server, Ollama). Loopback only. | Anyone, desktop app | 3 | Yes | User Apps |
User App, bridge and scripts | Run one command or a packaged script and show the result as rows. | Anyone, desktop app | 3 | Yes | User Apps |
| Search engine | A short prefix that searches a site, like r query. | Anyone | 1 | No | Search engines |
| Skill | A prompt, a tool the AI can call, or a scoped agent task. | Anyone your organization allows | Prompt 1, tool 3, agent task 3 | Yes | Skills and agents |
| Agent | An AI agent with its own instructions and tools, on Bolt or a remote endpoint. | Anyone your organization allows | 3 | Yes | Skills and agents |
| MCP server | Connect a tool server so agents can use its tools. | Anyone your organization allows | 3 | No | Connectors |
Connector (=key for company systems) | Search and act on Jira, Salesforce, Slack and others with each person's own sign-in. | Admin only | 3 | No (signed org bundle) | Connectors |
| Detector | Teach masking to recognise your own identifiers: patterns, keyword lists, exact records. | Admin only | 2 | No (signed org bundle) | Detectors |
| Compliance pack | A regulation's identifiers, rights, retention and evidence screens (GDPR, DPDP, and more). | Admin only | 2 | No (signed org bundle) | Compliance packs |

Adds a launcher key that works on what you paste or type, inside Bolt, with no command and no network: transform User Apps. Detectors and compliance packs, which change masking, are here too and are admin-only.
Runs a command or script, reads another program on your computer, calls an outside service, or gives an AI agent tools. Runs with your own rights, the same as your terminal. Install only what you trust.
Words we use
Bolt App is anything you add to Bolt from this page.
A Boltpack (.boltpack) is the signed file
that carries one or more of them from one person to another. Not every
kind fits in a Boltpack yet; the map says which do.
Personal means it is yours: it lives on your device or in your own account and nobody else gets it. Admin only means it changes Bolt for everyone in your organization.
Not supported today
| Thing | Today |
|---|---|
Slash scopes (/files, /emails) | Built in. You can hide them in Settings, but not add new ones. |
| Themes, plugins | No extension format. Plugins were removed from Bolt in October 2026. |
| Snippets, search engines, detectors in a personal Boltpack | Not packable yet. Share the text, or for detectors use an admin org bundle. |
| ZIP Boltpacks | Refused. A Boltpack is a gzip tar. |
| Agents on a local CLI agent backend | Rejected at run time today. Local CLI agents (Devin, Claude, Codex, Gemini) work as their own = keys instead. |
Community gallery
We are building a public gallery where people share Bolt Apps they made. It opens once Bolt enforces each App's permissions at run time and shows them in plain words at install. Until then you can share a Boltpack directly, and you can read the publishing plan.
